Olivier Côté is a director and screenwriter with a bachelor's degree in film, specializing in directing, from UQAM. During his university studies, his fiction short films stood out on the festival circuit, both in Quebec and internationally. His graduation short film, L’Abat (2021), was selected at more than twenty festivals worldwide (Palm Springs, Regard, FIFF Namur, among others) and won the NextGen Award at the Nashville Film Festival as well as the Grand Prize at the Plein(s) Écran(s) festival.
In 2022, Olivier won the Grand Prize of Cours écrire ton court, organized by SODEC, for his screenplay Les Rois. The film was later selected at over 25 festivals (Interfilm, Rhode Island, FIFF Namur, Kortfilmfestivalen, among others) and received nominations at the Prix Réals, PCCQ, and Japan Prize.
Olivier is drawn to an intimate and raw cinematic approach, aiming to explore our social tendencies and deepest paradoxes. Curious and versatile, he also works across multiple video formats beyond fiction, including documentary, video installations, animation, advertising, and music videos.
