Guimond

Born into a dual Quebeco-Tunisian culture and a native of Rimouski, Myriam Guimond is a director, screenwriter and producer. A graduate of Concordia University's Film Production program and UQAM's Cinematographic Screenwriting program, her early involvement on film sets was marked by a diverse range of departments: sound, camera, assistant director, scriptwriter, production manager and more. These experiences led her to focus on her true passion: directing. Fascinated by acting, characters and people, she has also trained with filmmakers such as Léa Pool to specialize in directing actors. For nine years, Myriam also practiced theatrical interpretation, convinced that actors are best directed by those who have been directed themselves. At the same time, she taught drama at elementary and high school levels for five years, honing her knowledge and technique. In partnership with Québec Cinéma, Myriam also offers directing workshops for young people in special education and those living with autism spectrum disorders. For the past 2 years, she has been offering camera acting courses to professional actors.

Her short film Jade & Mattéo (2015), an intimate look at denial in the face of mental illness, has been shown at several international festivals, including REGARD, Clermont-Ferrand and the FFEQ, where it won the jury's Coup de cœur award. With a subsequent desire to explore the codes of the thriller, Myriam directed Partie de chasse (2017), which found itself in Telefilm Canada's Talent tout court selection at the Cannes Film Festival, and in numerous festivals around the globe for three years. In 2018, she was invited to take part in an import-export challenge co-produced with the Festival Off-Courts Trouville, in Normandy, where she directed Les Ratées (2019) over three days, a horror film aimed at a younger audience and presented in official competition at Fantasia and the FCVQ. With a view to reconnecting with human drama, Myriam then directed Les filles aussi, a nostalgic tale of adolescence inspired by the women around her. While the film was scheduled to premiere at Talent Tout Court Cannes in 2020, the short is currently continuing its festival run, most notably at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Her latest film, One of the Boys , co-written with Laurence Latreille, deals with consent among young people, and has just landed at Bogoshort. The director is currently working on her first feature film with support from Sodec, Telefilm Canada and CALQ. She is also working on a documentary. Through these diversified cinematographic works, Myriam aims to tell innovative stories and give voice to those whom society seems intent on erasing.
